SANAA: Yemeni President Ali Abdullah Saleh vowed to track down the perpetrators of a deadly attack on the US Embassy in Sanaa and bring them to justice, in remarks reported yesterday. “We promise all Yemenis that we will chase the criminals wherever they are until they are arrested and brought to justice,” Saleh told a cultural forum in Al-Hodeida on the Red Sea late Thursday, according to the official Saba news agency.
“Such actions do not harm foreigners; they harm the country, its security and stability,” he said.
A Yemeni security source said on Thursday that authorities had rounded up 30 suspects over Wednesday’s attack claimed by an Al-Qaeda linked group.
The Organization of Islamic Jihad said it was behind the car bombing and rocket attack on the highly fortified US mission that killed six soldiers, six assailants and four others, including an American and her Yemeni husband.
It said it was demanding the release of militants being held by Yemeni authorities, who have been battling Al-Qaeda extremists even before the Sept. 11, 2001 attacks in the United States.
