JEDDAH: A 32-year-old government employee wanted to take time off for the Eid when many offices keep a skeleton staff while most employees get the time off. Disappointed to see his name on the list of workers who need to remain for the break, the employee had a colleague cut his finger so he could go to the emergency room and obtain a doctor’s note — as required by the labor law — to apply for sick leave. Somehow his neighborhood imam found out what the man had done and told the employee that it was immoral and that he should repent by going back to work. According to the report, the unnamed government employee was planning on heeding the imam’s advice and returning to work with a bandage on his appendage.
