Saudi jobless rate falling: Al-Homaid

JEDDAH: The unemployment rate in the Kingdom is falling, according to a statement made by Deputy Minister of Labor Abdul Wahid Al-Homaid while speaking at a seminar on human resources at the headquarters of the Jeddah Chamber of Commerce and Industry, (JCCI) yesterday.

“The level of unemployment amidst Saudis fell from last year’s 11.2 percent to 9.8 percent in the first half of the current year. While its rate amidst men declined from 8 percent to 6.9 percent its rate among women fell from 26.6 percent to 24.9 percent in the period,” Al-Homaid said quoting from a study conducted by the Ministry of Economy and Planning.

Al-Homaid asserted his ministry’s determination to root out unemployment saying that the ministry was not complacent about the achievement and would continue its efforts to end the issue with the collaboration of the private sector.
