AL-JOUF: Police and prison guards are searching for a 40-year-old woman inmate who escaped from the Qurayat Prison, according to Col. Misfar Al-Sawwat, director of prisons in Al-Jouf province in northern Saudi Arabia.
“The escape was well planned. We suspect that the woman might have been assisted by a prison guard,” said Al-Sawwat. He added that the woman left the prison unnoticed during the visiting hours between 3 p.m. and 4 p.m.
The prison authorities did not reveal when exactly the escape took place, but said the security forces were immediately put on alert and that the search would continue.
Al-Sawwat said he believed the woman must be hiding somewhere close to the prison because she did not get enough time to get away farther than that before the search operation began.
The woman, who was sent to jail on a conviction relating to drugs, had only five months left to serve. She had previously escaped from a juvenile home in Riyadh.
Al-Sawwat called on members of the public to assist in finding the woman and to inform the authorities about any information they might have about her whereabouts.
