JEDDAH: Security authorities yesterday found the body of a Saudi teacher who was missing since Monday after his car was swept away by floodwaters.
The body of 27-year-old Adil Moukli was found in Bish Dam, about 30 km away from the accident spot in Wadi Al-Raith, a valley in the mountainous terrain between Jizan and Asir provinces of southern Saudi Arabia.
Interior Minister Prince Naif had instructed the Civil Defense in Jizan to intensify the search for the missing schoolteacher.
Moukli’s relatives had found the man’s clothing and a bottle of perfume about 700 meters away from his car. But the man’s wife said it was not the dress worn by her husband on the day when the accident took place.
“The bloodstained and torn clothes had given us hope that Adil was still alive,” said Makki Al-Moukli, one of Adil’s cousins. Police discovered Moukli’s civil identity card, keys and wallet inside his car.
Makki denied press reports that Brig. Hamoud Al-Hassani, director of Civil Defense in Jizan, had visited the home of the missing teacher, adding that the officer had only contacted relatives by phone. “The Civil Defense officers started serious search operations for Moukli only on Wednesday,” said Makki.
Moukli’s family had threatened to lodge a complaint against the Civil Defense authorities in Jizan with the Court of Grievances for neglecting to launch a search operation soon after the accident and their failure to recover the body two days after the accident.
Adil Moukli, 27, and three colleagues were crossing Wadi Al-Raith on their way to work in Sarat Obeid on Monday when their car was caught in flash floods. Hassan Hekami, one of the teachers, was killed, while his colleagues Yahya Moukli, Adil’s brother, and Abdullah Mukshie escaped with injuries.
