YANBU: The casting and counting of votes in elections to the board of directors of the Yanbu Chamber of Commerce and Industry (YCCI) on Nov. 21 will be done electronically with the results announced immediately after the closure of voting.

Khaled Salman Al-Sahali, YCCI secretary-general, said votes will be cast on special ballot papers to be completed using styluses.

Thirteen candidates — 10 businesspeople and three industrialists — are contesting for eight of the YCCI board’s 12-seats with the minister of commerce appointing the remaining four.

For the first time ever, a businesswoman is contesting the elections. Alawiyyah Abbas expressed her happiness over her candidacy, saying she would do her best to serve Yanbu’s 93 businesswomen.

Al-Sahali expects a large number of voters to participate in the elections, especially since all candidates have announced their manifestos. He added that the YCCI has invested all its resources to ensure the elections are conducted smoothly.
