JEDDAH: Princess Adilah bint Abdullah, chair of the National Home Health Care Foundation, has emphasized the importance of raising greater awareness about home health care needs.
“After examining a number of hospitals we came out with this initiative due to the urgent and increasing need for home health care,” the princess told Arab News, referring to the home care requirements of the convalescing, severely handicapped and elderly patients.
The home health care sector, she said, is lacking in Saudi Arabia –- something her foundation is trying to rectify. The charity promotes volunteerism in various schools and universities.
The second annual Social and Medical Home Health Care Conference, hosted by the foundation, ended at Jeddah Hilton yesterday with calls to include zakat payments for funding home health care activities.
Over 600 delegates attended the conference from various countries and of both genders. Minister of Health Hamad Al-Manie was among the participants.
Princess Adilah says there is growing awareness in the field of community work but much has to be done in schools to instill the concept in the minds of children.
