RIYADH: A team of surgeons at King Fahd Medical City (KFMC) removed a 10kg tumor from a Saudi patient in what they said was the first-of-its-kind operation in the Middle East.
Dr. Yousuf Al-Suhaibani, head of the surgical team, said the patient was transferred to KFMC with severe pain and bloating in the abdomen.
“The patient was advised to go abroad for urgent surgery, but he opted for the procedure to be done at KFMC, as he had full confidence in the hospital’s medical team and its potential,” said Al-Suhaibani.
The operation lasted 14 hours.
KFMC Director Dr. Abdullah Al-Amro said the success of the operation reflects the quality of specialized treatment services at the hospital.
