Arab-German dialogue opens today

DUBAI: The Arab-German Cultural Dialogue Forum (AGCDF) will open in Dubai today.

More than 200 intellectuals and literary personalities from Germany and across the Arab world will take part in the event organized by Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Foundation. The participants will explore ways to revive cultural exchange and broaden the understanding of contemporary social trends.

Discussions will focus on key topics including prospects of future cultural relations between the Arab world and Europe, particularly Germany. The forum underlines the Foundation's objectives toward promoting inter-regional dialogue and reflects its deep interest in widening the scope of cultural cooperation between the Arab world and the West.

Key German speakers at the forum will include writer, translator, essayist and poet Michael Krüger; former head of the Academy of Arts in Berlin Adolf Muschg; director of the Museum of Islamic Art - State Museums of Berlin, Claus-Peter Haase, and author, poet, translator, and editor Hans Magnus Enzensberger.

Dr. Abdulkhalq Abdullah, professor of Political Sciences at the UAE University; Fahmi Hwaidi, renowned Egyptian thinker and writer; Dr. Al-Tahir Labib and acclaimed poet Adonis will be among the Arab speakers at the event.
