AL-JOUF: A Saudi patient yesterday beat up a 56-year-old Egyptian doctor at a local hospital in Sakaka in the northern province of Al-Jouf.
Police said the incident began when the dermatologist at Abdul Rahman Al-Sudairi General Hospital refused to examine a man in his 30s because he did not have referral papers from the hospital’s administration.
When the doctor tried to telephone the director of the outpatient clinics, the man locked him in his room and began beating him with his igal (headband).
According to police, hospital staff and other patients broke the door open to save the doctor and his nurse who were screaming for help.
The patient, who has not been identified, then fled the hospital. Police said he was arrested later and that the doctor, who has over 30 years’ practice, went on sick leave for a week.
