Kerala students take pledge against terrorism

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Thousands of students from 18 Indian states, including those from Jammu and Kashmir, have paid homage to the Mumbai terror victims.

The schoolchildren studying in the Markazu Ssaquafathi Ssunniyya institutions at Karanthoor in the northern Kerala district of Kozhikode also took a pledge to protect the country. District Collector A. Jayathilak administered the oath on the Markaz campus on Monday.

“I am proud to be the future citizen of free, secular, democratic and sovereign country called India,” the pledge said. “I will take up my duty to fight uncompromisingly the forces of terror, communalism and extremism.”

The function was organized as part of the 31st anniversary of the Markaz, founded by Sunni scholar A.P. Aboobacker Musliyar. Hussain Saquafi Chullikode delivered the welcome address while Markaz vice president Sayyid Fazal Jiffri Thangal presided over the function.

Markaz general manager C. Muhammad Faizee delivered the keynote address and M.K. Ismail Musaliyar Nellikuth inaugurated the program.

A.P. Muhammad Musaliyar, A.K. Abdul Hameed, G. Aboobacker, Abdul Khader, Karuvanachal, Sabir Ahsani, Moosa and T. Ibrahim offered felicitations. P.C. Ibrahim proposed vote of thanks.
