TAIF: The Health Affairs Department in Taif has decided to continue a program involving teams of medics, including health specialists and consultants, visiting hospital patients in towns and villages where there are no specialist hospitals.

The decision to continue the program, which was initiated about a year ago, was made by Dr. Abdul Rahman bin Abdullah Karkaman, director of Health Affairs in Taif.

The program was set up to save sick people the trouble of coming to specialist hospitals in Taif.

Saeed Al-Zahrani, spokesman for the Health Affairs Department in Taif, said the medical teams will include specialists in general surgery, internal medicine, neonatal care, pediatrics and psychiatry.

“They make monthly visits to hospitals in rural areas, such as Tarabah, Raniah, Missan, Bani Saad and Graie Bani Malik, to treat patients whose health condition might require them to being referred to advanced medical care,” he said.

“Last year, the team carried out 86 operations and examined 300 patients who otherwise might have been required to travel to Taif,” he added.

Al-Zahrani said emergency cases in these areas would, however, still be referred to Taif. He added that a number of new hospitals were being constructed in the Taif region.

There are around 11 hospitals and 105 health centers in Taif’s rural areas.
