TAIF: Health officials seized quantities of medicines with expired dates from several private clinics during an inspection in Taif yesterday, Saeed Al-Zahrani, spokesman of the health administration in Taif, told Arab News.

“The surprise inspection team under Ahmad Mirdad of the Medical Licensing Department found that one of the 20 clinics they visited was working though its licenses was suspended months ago because of violation of health regulations,” Al-Zahrani said.

The team also found that many doctors were handling cases they were not qualified to do while some of the clinics did not employ qualified nurses or pharmacists.

The team also checked if the workers were paid salaries properly, Al-Zahrani said.

“Some of the clinics supplied unlicensed or expired medicines while some other clinics did not have safety arrangements,” the spokesman added.

The inspection will continue in the next days as the team intended to visit all private hospitals, clinics and medical shops in the region.

The violators will be penalized according to regulations, the official said.
