KOCHI: Malayalam superstar Mohanlal has launched an ambitious project here to promote performing arts from all over the world. He has teamed up with an entrepreneur friend to set up an Rs. 40 million performing arts center in Kochi and announced that similar facilities will come up in Kozhikode and Thiruvananthapuram soon. The performing arts center called JT Pac here aims at “preserving, nurturing, propagating, celebrating and showcasing the countless treasures of performing arts with a focus on music, dance, theater and folk art.”

“The state-of-the art center is designed to be an intellectual crucible that can shape the sensibilities of the public, set benchmarks in artistic standards and influence the very culture of art appreciation,” the actor said.

The center is coming up on the Choice School campus on the outskirts of this Kerala port city.

“We have already completed 75 percent of the work and it is expected to be ready by February-end or early March,” Mohanlal told Arab News on the sidelines of the launch ceremony here last week. “A three-month calendar of performances is getting ready.”

The center will play a lead role in making Kerala the center stage of excellent theater, dance and folk art performances drawn from the great Indian traditions and from genres across the world.

“JT Pac will feature music, folk art and theater performances from around the world every weekend,” the superstar said.
