JEDDAH: Police arrested on Friday two Egyptians for their alleged involvement in the murder of a Saudi in his late 60s in the Safa neighborhood of north Jeddah on Thursday, Al-Eqtisadiah newspaper reported yesterday.

Jeddah police spokesman Col. Misfar Al-Juaid said preliminary inquiries revealed that the two Egyptian plumbers came to the old man’s house when he called them to fix a broken pipeline.

“When they learned that the old man was alone in the house, they gagged him and tied him up with tape. Then they carried him to the top of the building where they stabbed him,” Al-Juaid said, adding that the motive behind the murder is believed to be theft.

One of the suspects was a frequent visitor to the house, according to neighbors.

Police are continuing their investigations, Al-Juaid said. A sister who came to visit the old man later in the day found his body inside the home, according to Al-Eqtisadiah.

The woman’s frantic screams alerted neighbors who immediately informed the police, the paper said.
