YANBU: Police here are currently investigating death threats against a bank manager from a creditor whose loan has been deposited in another customer’s account. The story dates back to last November when a Saudi man, working for a military sector in Yanbu, applied for a SR30,000 loan. The loan was approved, but by mistake was remitted to an account of one of his colleagues at the bank. The colleague admitted that the amount of money was deposited in his account, but he said he spent the money and promised to pay it back. He requested that he be given time to arrange to pay back the money, but when he failed to do so the bank wrote a letter to the head of the military sector about the case. Earlier this month, the military man was made to sign a pledge to pay back the money within two weeks but has so far failed to honor his pledge. Last Saturday, one of the bank’s managers, Muhammad Abdul Rahman Samarqandi, received an SMS that read: “Give me back my money or I will kill you.” He did not hesitate to report the matter to the police, giving them the name and mobile number of the sender. Assistant manager of the bank, Saeed Al-Qahtani, also received the same SMS. Acting director of Yanbu police Col. Sami Al-Ahmadi said the matter was being probed. He said the police wrote a letter to the military sector requesting they bring the military man who made the threats for interrogation.
