JEDDAH: Abdul Latif Jameel Company Ltd. (ALJ), exclusive distributor of Toyota vehicles in the Kingdom, signed the platinum sponsorship contract for Hail Rally for the third time over the weekend.

Prince Abdullah bin Khalid bin Abdullah Al-Saud, vice-president of the Supreme Commission for Hail Development and head of the executive committee of the rally, labeled Hail Saudi Baja, signed the deal with Mohammed Bahassan, ALJ’s PR & Event Manager Mohammad, in Hail. As per the deal, the Toyota 4x4 becomes the official car of the International Hail Rally 2009 from Jan. 26-29. The event is being organized by the Saudi Arabian Motor Federation with the support of Hail Gov. Prince Saud bin Abdul Mohsen, who is also president of the Supreme Commission for Hail Development and head of the Supreme Commission of the Hail Rally. The prince thanked and appreciated ALJ company for its continuous support and sponsorship for motorsport activities over the last three years. “We are proud to see Toyota for the third year in Hail Rally. We urge the private sector to support such events that lead to international competitions,” he added.

“Hail rally has remained a very important event since its inception. We look forward to this event every year to seize the opportunity by supporting and sponsoring it. This is the third year we are supporting Hail Rally and the company’s focus always matches with its overall strategy, which aims toward the development of motor sport across the Kingdom. The company’s efforts have resulted in the launch of a major development at the beginning of 2008 — Toyota Saudi Racing Programs — marking an extension of promotion of motorsport,” Bahassan said.

Saudi driver Saleh Al-Saleh was recently selected to take part in the Hail Rally at the training sessions held by Toyota Rally School at Durat Al-Arous in north Jeddah. Another Saudi rally driver Yazeed Al-Rajhi has entered the fray. Al-Rajhi is also taking part in the Qatar International Rally this week. Meanwhile, officials at the federation have carried out another route check to ensure that everything is in order for the Hail Rally.
