TAIF: As part of efforts to improve health care services, the Health Department in Taif has started sending specialists in various fields to hospitals in the region.
“Special action teams comprising doctors, technicians and supervisors representing all medical departments, apart from quality control officials, make visits to all hospitals with the aim of improving hospital services. The teams will also identify problems that prevent satisfactory performance of some hospitals,” Saeed Al-Zahrani, spokesman for Taif’s Health Department, said in a statement yesterday.
“These special teams are in addition to the regular inspection and supervising conducted by the department,” Al-Zahrani said.
The new teams have already made 18 visits to primary-level hospitals in towns such as Bani Saad, Maysan, Bani Malik, Khormah, Tirbah and Renyah, and 15 visits to large hospitals such as King Abdul Aziz Specialist Hospital, King Faisal Hospital for Mental Health and hospitals of Chest Diseases and Children.
“These visits have undoubtedly helped improve service levels in those hospitals. The team members have pinpointed the areas where the services are below standard besides recommending for workers’ training, supply of medical equipment and better coordination between various hospital departments,” he said.
The teams have already taken steps to supply the hospitals they visited with sterilization equipment worth SR15 million.
Currently there are 11 hospitals with 1,970 beds in the Taif municipality. Work is under way for the construction of a 900-bed hospital for women and children in the city, he said, adding that smaller hospitals are under construction in Dhalam, Qaya, Al-Mahani and Umm Daum.
The Health Department is also organizing a two-day workshop that begins today in Taif.
