RIYADH: Police arrested nine Saudis accused of cheating several teachers in government schools promising to arrange their transfers to locations of their choice.

The gang, which was operating in Jeddah, demanded money in return for their illegal manipulations, according to a police statement in Riyadh.

The operations of the gang came to the notice of the police following the complaint of a teacher who became a victim of the scam. The gang members asked him to pay a certain amount of money if he wanted to get transferred to the school close to his home. Several teachers particularly women find it hard to work in places away from their hometowns because they have children to be looked after. There are also cases of women teachers who were injured in traffic accidents during their daily commuting.

The police are investigating the case, Al-Jazirah daily reported yesterday.
