RIYADH: The Ministry of Education has warned against the tendency of some students and their guardians to attack schoolteachers.
“The ministry will stand by teachers to safeguard their rights in schools and even in courts if required,” Abdulaziz Al-Jarallah, spokesman for the Ministry of Education, said yesterday.
“As teachers, both men and women, are the major props of the education system and harming them in any way is considered an attack on the education system itself. The Ministry of Education will not spare any effort to protect teachers. It will do everything to ensure that they are secure and safe while they discharge their duties,” Al-Jarallah said in his statement.
The spokesman urged the parents of students to play an active part in their children’s education by interacting with teachers. “The families should ensure that their children are getting proper education so that they can contribute to the progress of the country,” the spokesman said.
He also called on the local media to help promote a culture of dialogue and create awareness about the need for students to get proper education.
He also stressed the role of social institutions including mosques, clubs and cultural gatherings in promoting a culture of toleration and mutual respect.
The spokesman hoped that the teachers and other school staff would also play their role by continuing to offer more dedicated service.
Several incidents of violence against teachers have been reported in the media in recent years.
