RIYADH: Prince Alwaleed bin Talal, chairman of Kingdom Holding Company, received at his office in Riyadh Saudi actor Fayez Al-Maliki, the main character in the Saudi film “Menahi” and a forthcoming sequel. The meeting was attended by Turki Shabana, general manager of Rotana Khalijiyah and the film’s executive producer; Ayman Halawani, general manager of Rotana Studio; and Ibrahim Al-Badei, manager of corporate communications department at Rotana.
Prince Alwaleed said that he was pleased with the success of “Menahi” and the reception it had received. The prince congratulated Al-Maliki and the producers, referring to the significance of the film for being the first Saudi film to be shown in the first cinemas in Saudi Arabia.
“Saudi films and theaters have arrived with Rotana’s film ‘Menahi’,” he said. “We will support the success and advancement of Saudi cinema within the framework of our culture and tradition. The launch of authorized films is an extension of our efforts to produce local films and sponsorship of the Jeddah Film Festival. We will keep driving for change on all fronts in Saudi society.”
As an extension for this drive for change, Alwaleed sponsored the first Saudi film, the first Saudi woman to be a licensed pilot and the first Saudi equestrienne. Sixty-five percent of Kingdom Holding Company’s employees are women, according to the company. Alwaleed donated the proceeds from “Menahi” to the 4th Jeddah Film Festival that will be sponsored by Rotana and chaired by the prince.
