JEDDAH: Police in Jeddah have arrested 6,000 overstayers in the past six months in campaigns against crime, said Col. Misfar Al-Juaid, spokesman for Jeddah police.
Al-Juaid said 1,892 crimes were solved during this period. These crimes related to alcohol, drugs, robbery and fraud.
“Regular raids by security forces are aimed at curbing crime. We urge citizens and expatriates to cooperate with the security forces for their own protection,” said Al-Juaid.
Jeddah Gov. Prince Mishaal bin Majed directed all concerned organizations to intensify efforts in combating crime. “Criminal activities have serious psychological, social and economic implications ... they hinder development,” he said.
