JEDDAH: The annual Middle East Education, Training, Equipment and Solutions (MEETES) exhibition opens with the support of the Technical and Vocational Training Corporation (TVTC) at the Jeddah Center for Forums and Events today.

There will also be a symposium running alongside the exhibition. A number of top officials are to attend the “high-profile” symposium, which will include a series of lectures, workshops and demonstrations.

This is Saudi Arabia’s 14th international exhibition and symposium for education, training, human resources, equipment, aids and services.

The Netherlands and Brazil are taking part in the event for the first time, while Malaysia is participating for the fourth time. Canada, Britain, Germany, Ireland, the United States, Turkey, Switzerland, Cyprus, Australia, Egypt, Jordan, the United Arab Emirates and Bahrain are among the other overseas participants.

General education, higher education, e-learning and distance learning, as well as training, careers and recruitment, and educational solutions will be among the key areas the show will focus on.

MEETES is being staged at a time when a number of developments are taking place in the education sector, said Zahoor Siddique, exhibitions director at ACE.

Education remains at the forefront of the Saudi government spending, with particular emphasis on primary and secondary education. This is substantiated by the fact that thousands of new schools have been constructed and many more are currently under construction or renovation.

Higher education in the Kingdom is going through major changes with the opening of new universities.

As a result of the ever-increasing demand for teaching and training in Saudi Arabia, educational solutions across the entire learning sector are being sought to enhance student performance and work force development. MEETES will focus on all these and many other aspects of education, Siddique added.
