MAKKAH: Three Asian mobile shop employees have been arrested on charges of distributing pornography.
According to the Commission for the Promotion of Virtue and Prevention of Vice in the holy city, the men were found guilty of copying pornographic material on to mobile phone memory cards for customers, especially to lure women customers into sexual relations.
The head of the Al-Mansour branch of the commission, Ahmed ibn Muhammad Al-Gouba, said they dispatched an undercover agent to the shop after receiving a report of the activity.
The agent then asked for porn to be loaded onto a memory card. The next day the agent returned for his loaded card and it was then the men were arrested. The commission did not release the names of the three men.
Counterfeit phones
The police in Yanbu arrested a gang of five Yemenis who were charged with selling counterfeit mobile phones.
Madinah police spokesman Col. Muhsin Al-Radadi said the gang was selling counterfeit mobile phones in the streets but not near places where phone vendors congregate in order to avoid being detected by other merchants.
He said the police found with them SR49,800 in cash in addition to 40 counterfeit mobile phones.
According to Al-Radadi, the gang admitted that they had sold about 2,000 counterfeit mobiles in various parts of the Kingdom avoiding big cities and towns where the phones might be easily recognized.
