JEDDAH: Action in the AFC Champions League continues today with eight matches taking place, in which Saudi clubs Al-Hilal and Al-Shabab are playing.
Newly-crowned Prince Faisal bin Fahd Cup champion Shabab takes on Piroozi Perspolis of Iran in Riyadh in a Group B match.
Shabab and Piroozi Perspolis both have three points after winning against Al-Garrafa of Qatar 3-1 and Al-Sharjah 3-1 respectively.
In front of its home crowd Shabab should have little trouble against the visiting Iranians, as both teams battle for the leadership in the group.
Hilal faces Pakhtakor Tashkent in an away game in Uzbekistan in Group A as it tries to rebound from a defeat Saba Batry of Iran in the opening match of the group in Riyadh.
Pakhtakor is in a better situation with three points from one win against Al-Ahli of UAE 2-1. Any result other than a victory would put Hilal in a bind.
Meantime, Al-Raid will today host Al-Ahli in the Saudi Professional League competition in Buraidah in a postponed match from round 9.
Ahli is looking to nab the three points that will put the team in third place with 32 points. Currently, Ahli is fourth in the standings with 29 points and Raid 10th with 12 points and in critical situation.
Down in the dumps, Raid needs to win or risk relegation to the Saudi League First Division.
