Bridge between compact digital and DSLRs

The NX Series is a new family of hybrid digital cameras from Samsung. The NX Series offers the performance and image quality of a digital single-lens reflex camera (DSLR) and the portability and convenience of a compact point-and-shoot digital camera.

Like conventional DSLRs, the NX Series utilizes an APS C-sized image sensor providing a much larger surface area to gather light and produce higher-quality images than comparable digital camera systems. Unlike a DSLR, the NX Series does not feature a mirror box and employs an Electronic Viewfinder (EVF). The use of an EVF has allowed Samsung engineers to significantly reduce the size and weight of the camera system by decreasing the distance between the lens and image sensor by approximately 60 percent compared to traditional DSLRs.

Bringing geographical location to memories

The new HTC Touch Cruise is a mobile phone with built in GPS that enables users to avail themselves of HTC Footprints, an application that helps people chronicle special moments by capturing a digital postcard on the phone.

Once captured, Footprints provides the ability to take notes and an audio clip of the special place while identifying its specific geographical location. Footprints also auto-names each postcard with the general location or area depicted in the data capture. Flipping back through their photos, HTC Touch Cruise users will be able to retrace their steps to that exact location with just a few touches. Unlike other devices with geo-tagging functionality, HTC Footprints works effectively outdoors and indoors, offering a more accurate record of location for future reference and navigation.

The HTC Touch Cruise can also provide in-car navigation system. When placed into its accompanying car cradle, the HTC Touch Cruise automatically transforms its user interface into a one-touch interface that offers turn-by-turn directions.

What are you working on?

Yammer is similar to the social messaging utility Twitter, but its focus is on the workplace. Yammer (www.yammer.com) is a free tool for making companies and organizations more productive through the exchange of short answers to one question: What are you working on? As employees answer that question, a feed is created in one central location enabling co-workers to discuss ideas, post news, ask questions and share links and other information. Yammer also serves as a company directory in which every employee has a profile and as a knowledge base where past conversations can be easily accessed and referenced.

Anyone in a company can start their Yammer network and begin inviting colleagues. The privacy of each network is ensured by limiting access to those with a valid company e-mail address.

Projector with LED-based digital light source

The new palm size projector (HS102G) from LG Electronics uses an LED light source and is among the smallest projectors available at 15.4 x 11.7 x 5 cm and 780 grams. The projector offers 160 ANSI lumen high brightness and 2000:1 contrast ratio which combine to create a best projecting image size of 60 inches at 1.6 meters.

The LED light source used in the HS102G is rated to last 30,000 hours. The LED projector is available with an optional battery allowing the device to be operated without an external power supply. The HS102G can project DivX movies and JPEG images to a screen and play back MP3 files on its built in stereo speakers, directly from any USB source.
