DUBAI: Three workers of unreported nationality died and three others sustained moderate injuries after a wall under construction collapsed on them in Dubai early yesterday morning. The police believe the collapse was due to the bad weather conditions yesterday as rain and strong winds lashed the emirate. The wall of a warehouse building had not been properly reinforced. Dubai Municipality and Police are investigating to find out if weather conditions or negligence was the cause of the incident.
In a separate incident, a Filipino butcher accidentally minced his hand while trying to unclog the electric grinder he was using. Rescue workers from Dubai Police rushed to the supermarket where the butcher worked but failed to remove his hand.
According to a police source, even though the rescue workers had tried to sedate the man on the scene he was still conscious and fighting them when they tried to loosen his hand. The rescuers then dismantled the huge grinder and transported it to the trauma center with the man stuck to it. It took two officers to carry the grinder.
At the hospital, doctors fully sedated the victim after which the rescuers managed to free his hand. However, doctors were forced to chop off his hand as much of it had been mutilated.
