RIYADH: Second Deputy Premier and Minister of Interior Prince Naif has been awarded the International Medical Congress's Award of Excellence for the year 2009 in appreciation of his humanitarian activities.
Prince Naif, the first Arab and Muslim to win the award, is the chairman of various committees and campaigns to offer relief and help to victims affected by natural calamities and war across the world.
Saudi Ambassador to Hungary Faisal Abdul Aziz Hashim received the award on behalf of Second deputy premier in a function in Hungary's capital Budapest attended by 82 countries yesterday.
The award is annually granted to a prominent personality in the field of humanitarian action with focus on the medical side. The prince has been at the helm of relief committees and campaigns to provide humanitarian assistance in Palestine, Iraq, Lebanon, Pakistan, Afghanistan and other countries affected Tsunami, flood and earthquake. Saudi Press Agency reported yesterday. The cost of social, health, educational and developmental programs and projects undertaken by such committees and campaigns is estimated at SR 1,661,496,309.
