MAKKAH: The remains of a man found close to a vehicle in a desert location outside Makkah in late 2006 was identified as that of a young Saudi man in his early 30s.

Maj. Abdul Muhsin Al-Mayman, spokesman for Makkah police, said a Saudi family recently reported that their young son who was mentally ill had been missing for some time.

“DNA tests were carried out in Riyadh and it was proved that the remains were those of the missing youth. He died of natural causes,” said Al-Mayman.

Meanwhile, Jeddah police have completed an investigation into the case of a dead Indonesian whose body was found inside a suitcase last month.

Col. Misfar Al-Juaid, spokesman for Jeddah Police, said that forensic investigation proved that the person died naturally. “There were no signs that the person had been murdered,” he added.

He said that the person’s friends could have abandoned the body in the suitcase because of their illegal residency status.

Police launched an investigation last month after being tipped by a resident who saw the bag being thrown recklessly in an empty plot of land.

It is common among illegal residents to dump bodies of relatives who die naturally in public places so that the authorities would pick them up for burial.
