RIYADH: Health Minister Dr. Abdullah Al-Rabeeah inaugurated the first phase of the ICU wing at King Saud Medical Complex at a ceremony here yesterday.
Inaugurating the 100-bed intensive care unit, Al-Rabeeah said there was a growing demand for more medical facilities throughout the Kingdom.
“The new construction projects are on course and we have urged the respective contractors to complete the projects without delay,” the minister said.
To provide integrated health services, he said, his ministry has embarked on new projects such as family health and home health care programs to provide optimum services to the members of the public.
The minister stressed that the ICU services are very important in any health care system.
Dr. Adnan Abdulkarim, general supervisor of the complex, said the hospital receives more than 800,000 patients every year. He indicated that the ICU services have considerably improved to cater to a larger clientele of patients.
He said with the development programs, facilities and equipment of the hospital will be housed in six model towers.
The first tower will have 368 beds, including 100 intensive care beds and 40 beds for general patients.
Regarding dengue fever cases in western Saudi Arabia, Al-Rabeeah pointed out that a special committee comprising officials from the ministries of Health and Agriculture, the provincial governorate and municipalities will meet weekly to monitor the situation and draw up a comprehensive plan to prevent the disease from spreading.
