JEDDAH: Al-Ahli and Al-Hazem face off today in a decisive second leg match in the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques Cup of Champions football tournament at the Prince Abdulah Al-Faisal Stadium here.
Tied 1-1 after the first leg match the sides are expected to go all out for victory although Ahli remains firm favorite by virtue of its home field advantage.
Today’s match is Ahli’s remaining chance to continue to vie for the last major trophy up for grabs in the season that is about to end.
Ahli’s coaching staff had complained about the late penalty kick awarded to Hazem in injury time saying that the referee’s poor judgment deprived Ahli of a win.
Ahli’s coach said that the team has that talent but that it was bad luck that contributed to the dismal performance this season, not to mention the injuries and suspensions. He said that Ahli is now ready to strike and qualify for the semifinal round.
Ahli team captain Saheb Al-Abdullah said he is ready to play despite his injury. “We promised to bring joy to our fans no matter what. The next stage after the match will be difficult but we will be ready for it,” said Al-Abdullah.
