AL-JOUF: A driver of a pickup truck was accidentally shot in the back by a fellow passenger in Al-Jouf recently. The passenger shot the driver while trying to discard an unlicensed pistol from the window of the vehicle after they saw a police car heading toward them.

Col. Daman bin Wanis Al-Daraan, spokesman for Al-Jouf police, said the driver, a 22-year-old Saudi, was in intensive care but stable. He said the bullet was removed from the man’s body.

“The car coming from Qara district was heading toward Prince Abdul Ilah Express Road. When the driver saw a police patrol at an intersection he turned back quickly and hit a pavement. The police patrol became suspicious, followed the car and found the driver had been shot,” said Al-Daraan.

He added that following investigations, it transpired that the passenger, a 25-year-old Saudi, accidentally shot the driver while trying to discard his pistol. “The driver was taken to Prince Abdul Rahman Al-Sudairy General Hospital in Sakaka where doctors removed the bullet. The three passengers in the vehicle were also arrested,” he said.

Al-Daraan added that the case has been transferred to the Investigation and Prosecution Board for further investigations.
