The Xerox ColorQube 9200 Series is the world’s first high-speed solid ink multifunction printer. It cuts the cost of color pages by up to 62 percent compared to traditional color lasers − without compromising print quality. The print head, about the size of deck of cards, packs in 880 nozzles — twice the number per linear inch compared to prior print heads — enabling molten solid ink to print 85 pages per minute. Development of the miniscule nozzles — each only 37.5 microns wide — is a major achievement because they deliver higher flow rates — 150 million drops of ink per second — despite their reduced size.
The multifunction system prints, scans and copies — all in one device — with advanced technology that simplifies use and maintenance. The crayon-like ink sticks are non-toxic and easy to load. Xerox’s proprietary solid ink technology lowers the environmental impact of office printing. The ink, solid at room temperature in the form of an ink stick, is melted inside the printer and loaded into the print head in liquid form. This simple, highly reliable process does not use cartridges to hold the ink, reducing supplies’ waste by 90 percent compared to competitive office laser-based products, and reduces the effects of manufacturing and transportation on the environment.
