JAZAN: The first group of Saudi students selected for higher studies and training under a scholarship program sponsored by MMC Saudi Arabia Co. Ltd., the Malaysian partner in the development of the multibillion riyal Jazan Economic City (JEC), were scheduled to leave for Malaysia last night.
“We are currently preparing the second list of students to be sent under our scholarship program to Malaysia,” said Zaidan Mohamed O. Yousef, chief executive officer of MMC Saudi Arabia, a subsidiary of MMC International Holding.
A special feature of the Al-Bukhari Foundation Scholarship Program is that the students who complete their training successfully will be employed at JEC.
Under the program, 1,000 students, including women, will be selected for job-related courses and programs that are needed at JEC in various fields, such as different branches of engineering, administration, computer applications, management and accounting, Al-Eqtisadiah daily reported yesterday.
JEC, one of the four economic city projects being implemented in the Kingdom, is aimed at the economic and social development of Jazan, one of the least developed regions of the Kingdom with a population of 1.2 million covering an area of 40,000 square kilometers.
The Al-Bukhari Foundation will pay students’ tuition fees and offer a one-year English-language course, medical insurance for the entire period of study and accommodation.
Students will also get a monthly allowance for personal expenses and other allowances for buying books, training and preparation of dissertations.
