RIYADH: Saudi Customs have seized 14 million Captagon tablets, 41 kg of hashish and four kg of heroin in the last two months, Abdullah Al-Kharboush, an official at the Customs said.
“This is the first time such a huge quantity of drugs has been seized by the Customs within such a short period,” Al-Kharboush told the Saudi Press Agency.
He said customs officers were able to stop smuggling of various types of drugs into the Kingdom as a result of their vigilance and the application of modern detecting machines.
In a related development, border guards in Jazan stopped smuggling of 13,999 rounds of live ammunition, 28 pieces of different weapons, 30 kg of explosives, eight sticks of dynamites and a pen gun in the last six months.
They also seized 1,535 bottles of alcohol, 1.28 million pieces of qat, 1,001 kg of hashish and 37,509 Captagon pills. The border guards also arrested 127,875 intruders and 2,206 children who were being smuggled across the Yemeni border into the Kingdom during the same period.
The border guards also stopped the smuggling of 1.98 million kg of flour ad 914,740 kg of barley, SPA said quoting an official statement.
Marine border guards rescued 31 sailors during the last six months, it added.
