JEDDAH: A father and his four sons, aged 15 to 20, drowned in a pond in Najran’s Wadi Al-Jazm.
Capt. Ali Al-Jurman, spokesman for the Civil Defense in the region, said three rescue teams were involved in recovering the bodies from the pond, located about 700 meters away from a road.
He named the father as Ali Muhammad Al-Raka. “The tragedy occurred when one of the four children went into the water to swim and ran into difficulties. One of his brothers then jumped in to save him and also encountered difficulties.
The father then called the Civil Defense. Meanwhile, his two other sons jumped in and also ran into difficulties,” he said, adding that the father then waded in and he too drowned.
A similar incident took place in Najran’s Ghadir Al-Sabaya last year, killing seven members of a family.
