JEDDAH: Jeddah police reported on Sunday the arrest of two suspects believed to be involved in the kidnap and gang rape of a Chadian teenager. Jeddah police spokesman Col. Misfir Al-Juaid told Arab News four Chadian men abducted the girl and took her to a dark area behind the Ahdal market in the southern Ghulail district. After responding to a complaint by the rape survivor’s family, police arrested two men, ages unknown, and are searching for the other two.
Five behind bars for prostitution
JEDDAH: Five Arab women of unreported nationalities were detained on charges of running a prostitution ring out of a south-side apartment complex. According to police spokesman Col. Misfir Al-Juaid, the women were all in their 40s and 50s. The women are currently detained and being investigated.
Smut gang broken up
JEDDAH: The Commission for the Promotion of Virtue and Prevention of Vice on Sunday arrested 10 people accused of distributing pornographic CDs. Spokesman of the commission in Jeddah, Salim Al-Sarwati, said 15,000 CDs were confiscated. The men belonged to various nationalities and the majority of them did not have proof of legal residence, he added. He said the arrested men were handed over to the police for probe and prosecution.
Inspections to catch bad dough
JEDDAH: The Jeddah municipality has started an inspection of local supermarkets _ and groceries to prevent the sale of Nestle Toll House cookie dough following reports from the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) that some of the product had been contaminated with e coli. The municipality made a circular to all branch municipalities to prevent the sale of this product and to withdraw it altogether from shelves.
Indonesian maid commits suicide
YANBU: Yanbu police are investigating the suicide of a 43-year-old Indonesian housemaid who was found hanging on to the ceiling on Sunday. The sponsor said he was shocked to find the woman had committed suicide because he had just bought the tickets for her return to Indonesia, the police source said.
