JEDDAH: Minister of Commerce and Industry Abdullah Zainal Alireza approved for the establishment of a national Haj and Umrah Committee in Makkah as requested by the Makkah Chamber of Commerce and Industry (MCCI).

The proposed committee will comprise three existing committees that deal with Haj and Umrah matters in the chambers of commerce in Jeddah, Makkah and Madinah. “The national committee, for which the commerce minister has issued approval, will strive to identify the problems faced by the Haj and Umrah industry and come up with solutions for them in collaboration with other departments,” said MCCI Haj and Umrah Committee Chairman Saad Al-Qarshi in a statement on Thursday.

Al-Qarshi added that the MCCI took the initiative for the establishment of the committee and recommended the names of its members.

He also said the new committee would work in concert with other related governmental departments and private agencies with the ultimate aim of making Haj and Umrah more comfortable and safe for pilgrims.
