JEDDAH: Journalists in Jeddah will for the first time have their own club where they will be able to gather for official and social events. Chairman of the board of directors of the Jeddah Chamber of Commerce and Industry Muhammad Al-Fadl will open the center on Wednesday at the Jeddah Exhibition Center on Madinah Road.
The center, equipped to be a forum and a gathering place for journalists, will bear the name of Abdullah Sadiq Dahlan who served for more than 18 years as JCCI secretary-general making great contributions to promoting the chamber and enhancing trade in the city.
“The center will meet all the requirements of journalists, especially the need for finance to hold meetings and get-togethers from time to time similar to their colleagues elsewhere in the world,” the chairman said.
Al-Fadl said journalists would be able to follow up on conferences, important economic events, exhibitions and other activities held at the exhibition center. “The center is situated at a strategic location and can be easily accessed from anywhere in the city,” Al-Fadl said, adding that membership is open to both Saudi and foreign journalists.
He said the JCCI was looking forward to the center becoming a place where pressmen could get together for work or consultation on issues concerning them. “This represents a recognition by the JCCI of the important role being played by the media in serving Jeddah’s economic community in general and the JCCI in particular,” he added.
In addition to the social club, the center consists of conference halls, studios, transmission rooms and others. “The center and the club are equipped with the most modern technology, including computers and Internet access,” Al-Fadl said.
He said both the center and the club would be linked to various networks to help media personnel gather information from original sources.
