MADINAH: A teenage girl, 18, and a boy, 10, drowned in a ravine in Wadi Aqul, 10 kilometers to the north of Madinah on Tuesday, Civil Defense spokesman Col. Mansour Al-Johani said on Wednesday.
“Civil Defense received a call at 3:45 p.m. on Tuesday that a boy and a girl disappeared in the water while they were crossing a strong water course that was formed during heavy showers previous night. The search team found the girl’s body at the point where she crossed the water, but the boy’s body was found far downstream,” he said.
Flash floods in Jazan
Flash floods isolated several towns and wadis in the southern province of Jazan following heavy showers on Tuesday and Wednesday. No injuries or fatalities were reported. Traffic was resumed after water levels went down and roads were cleared with the help of Civil Defense responders.
In Al-Darb town, four vehicles submerged in floodwater were recovered with the help of heavy machines. Civil Defense has warned people to avoid wadis (wide desert gullies prone to flash flooding) as thunderstorms are likely to continue for the next few days.
