JEDDAH: The Friends of Jeddah Society distributed fruit juice and dates to more than 1,000 incoming pilgrims in the Haj lounge at the King Abdul Aziz International Airport recently.

Director of the society, Jamal Al-Mundhiri, said this is the first of a series of voluntary services planned by the organization for the summer.

“The service of pilgrims was planned as they were coming to Jeddah in large numbers in Ramadan for Umrah,“ Al-Mundhiri told Arab News. The group is also organizing training programs for its members on the techniques of voluntary services, he added. He said the planned activities are designed to cover all phases of life in the city.

“For instance, the society will carry out an awareness campaign against dengue fever, cleaning the Corniche, public gardens and planting trees,“ he said.

The organization also has plans to increase the public awareness of environment protection and repairing and furnishing houses of the poor.

He also stressed the need for members undertaking special voluntary works related to the field they are skilled in.
