It’s slime time

Who wants to use a boring, black clad computer? Give up the nerd look and get slimed. Dell and Nickelodeon are mixing fun and education with the Dell Inspiron Mini Nickelodeon Edition. The netbook is designed specifically for kids and sports a Nickelodeon-inspired “green slime” artwork scheme. Additional designs based on Nickelodeon hit properties of iCarly and SpongeBob SquarePants, will also be available at Dell.com’s Design Studio.

Weighing less than three pounds, the Dell Inspiron Mini Nickelodeon Edition can easily be carried by kids. Based on Dell’s Inspiron Mini 10v netbook, it features a 10.1-inch color LCD display and built-in wireless Internet access. The system includes a 15-month subscription to McAfee Family Security and if the netbook goes astray it can report its location on the Internet with its built-in LoJack for Laptops anti-theft program.

Each Dell Inspiron Mini Nickelodeon Edition comes with Nickelodeon-branded desktop wallpaper and icons that create a kid-friendly experience. The Nickelodeon-themed interface provides direct access to dedicated Web portals that serve up dynamically updated content at dedicated Dell “landing zones” at Nick.com. There’s also a desktop animaticon linked to educational content from Whyville.net.

Virtual makeover application

Aiming to change how women discover, try and even buy beauty products, Daily Makeover (www.dailymakeover.com) has introduced the next generation of its virtual makeover application, Makeover Studio. Daily Makeover’s virtual try-on technology in Makeover Studio includes new rendering functionality, visualization technology and face-tracing capabilities. It also has a large range of makeup finishes — satin, matte, metallic, shimmer, stained, dewy, sheer and glossy — to reflect the true properties specific cosmetics create when applied. Makeover Studio has incorporated an option for women to adjust the placement and coverage levels of foundations, concealers, lip colors, eye shadows, mascara and blush. The application also includes an enhanced facial recognition component.

With the new technologies, when a woman uploads her photo to Makeover Studio, her face is instantly traced so that all the different application techniques can be superimposed on her face in the correct areas. The application is so specific that it will differentiate between volumizing and lengthening mascara or how a dewy cream blush looks versus a soft satin powder blush. Using Makeover Studio a woman can tweak her look until it’s just right.
