JEDDAH: Minister of Water and Electricity Abdullah Al-Hussayen inspected on Wednesday Jeddah’s sewage lake, located on the eastern outskirts of the city.

Al-Hussayen also visited the treatment plant, which is approaching completion and will be ready for operation in a month.

The plant, which will have a projected daily capacity of 60,000 cubic meters, will be operating with the latest technology in sewage treatment, the minister said while expressing satisfaction at the progress of a tree-planting project aimed at turning the area around the lake into a green zone.

The 8.5-million-square-meter project surrounding the lake will be irrigated by treated water from the lake.

The first phase of the project, which was inaugurated by Deputy Minister of Municipal and Rural Affairs Prince Mansur bin Miteb eight months ago, included the planting of 200,000 trees in an area of 2.5 million square meters.
