DUBAI: Dubai’s flagship property firm Nakheel, and Emaar Properties, the builder of the world’s tallest tower, will now attend the Gulf emirate’s annual Cityscape exhibition, after initially saying they would not. In statements published in local media on Sunday to confirm their attendance, neither firm gave a reason for the turnaround.
But Nakheel said that after discussions with industry stakeholders and conference organizers, it intended to promote “communal properties” in the UAE that are close to completion.
Emaar, which last week said it had taken a “strategic decision” not to participate, said it would be a chance to promote its expansion strategy in the Middle East and Asia.
Gulf Arab property firms launched $100 billion of new projects at last year’s October exhibition in Dubai, but many are now on hold or cancalled because of the global downturn. This year’s Dubai exhibition will run from Oct. 5-8.
