JEDDAH: The Saudi Post has issued a postal stamp valued at SR2 and a postal card worth SR5 to mark the opening of King Abdullah University of Science and Technology (KAUST) in Thuwal on Wednesday.
In a statement on the occasion, Muhammad Saleh Bantan, president of Saudi Post, said the university, which is the brainchild of Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Abdullah, would open a new era in the Kingdom’s higher education.
“This is a new House of Knowledge established with the moral and material support of the king,” Bantan said, adding that it would attract scientists and intellectuals from around the world.
The stamp and the card carry a photo of King Abdullah and an Arabic phrase which means “from vision to reality,” highlighting the king’s efforts to take the Kingdom to the level of advanced countries.
Bantan spoke about his organization’s “Wasel” service that helps Saudis and expatriates to receive their mail at their residences as easily as possible.
“We provide a unique postal address through our geographic information systems. We install the boxes at customer houses and deliver the keys of the box free of charge for life,” Bantan said.
