TAIF: Taif police said on Wednesday they launched an investigation after receiving a complaint on Tuesday from the mother of an 18-month-old baby that the woman’s ex-husband was torturing the boy.
Maj. Turki Al-Shahri, spokesman for Taif police, said the police station in Bani Saad received the complaint.
“We are now in the process of investigating the incident,” he said.
An official of the National Society for Human Rights’ office in Taif said the organization had also received a similar complaint. The mother of the infant identified only as Abdullah reportedly said she found bruises and burns on the baby’s body.
“The society is now trying to find out the truth in the complaint,” the spokesman said.
The mother had separated from her husband two months after she became pregnant. The ex-husband then married another woman.
At some point the father took custody of the child and then prevented his ex-wife from visiting the baby during Eid.
