JEDDAH: The secretary-general of the Makkah-based Muslim World League (MWL), Abdullah Al-Turki, will chair a meeting of the Islamic Cultural Foundation’s (ICF) constituent council in Geneva on Sunday to discuss a number of topics for promoting dawa activities in Switzerland, the MWL said on Saturday.
The meeting will discuss the foundation’s relations with Muslim communities, mosques and Islamic centers in various parts of Switzerland, an MWL statement said. It will also review the foundation’s efforts to coordinate with government departments to solve problems facing Muslims, it added.
Management of endowment properties under the foundation is another topic of discussion, the statement said, adding that such properties would be invested to generate revenue for financing its various educational and charitable programs.
Al-Turki arrived in Geneva on Thursday at the head of a high-level MWL delegation to organize an international interfaith conference on “the impact of the interfaith initiative of Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Abdullah in disseminating human values.”
The Geneva-based ICF carries out a number of Islamic programs to enhance the knowledge of Muslims about their religion and issues religious rulings on contemporary social and economic issues.
“It also takes care of a large number of new Muslims who embrace Islam and conducts classes for them in order to deepen their knowledge about Islam,” the statement said.
About 310,000 Muslims live in Switzerland who represent about 4.5 percent of the total population. Muslims in Switzerland are mostly migrants from different countries. The majority of them are from Turkey (42 percent) and former Yugoslavia (36 percent).
