BURAIDAH: Here’s one to think about before seeking divorce: regret. According to a report in a local newspaper on Sunday, a man identified as “HK” decided after the fact that in fact he was still in love with his ex-wife, which resulted in him sending 181 text messages and several intermediaries in an attempt to woo the lady back into his life. The result of the HK’s advances (aka harassment) was a civil complaint filed against him by his ex. The result? Seventy lashes and loss of visitation rights to his children. The sentence was upheld in appeal. It just goes to show that when it comes to love, you don’t get a second chance.
It’s never too late for reconciliation
ALKHOBAR: After 40 years of despising each other, two brothers reconciled with the help of relatives. Way back in the late 60s, the father of the men passed away and left the young men a house. One brother wanted to keep the property and rent it; the other brother wanted to sell the house and split the proceeds, according to a report in a local daily on Sunday. The report didn’t say which of the brothers won out in this conflict, but suffice to say they stopped speaking to each other over this dispute. Now, 40 years later, the men decided to act like men and for the sake of the family, they came to terms with this lingering wound for which time was the only cure.
Sight returns after injury: Report
AL-LAITH: A local newspaper reported on Sunday that an old woman who had lost her sight nearly 50 years ago returned to the land of the seeing after her granddaughter accidentally struck her with a colocynth (aka bitter apple). The girl threw the unripe fruit, which struck her grandmother in the head. The injury knocked the woman down and caused her considerable pain. But then, according to the report, she regained her vision. Who knew this fruit, known more commonly as an extremely robust laxative, could also cure the blind!
