TAIF: A groom was outraged to open an envelope at his wedding celebration to find one of his friends had given him only one, lonely little 50-riyal bill a local daily reported on Wednesday. Incensed at this tightwad behavior the groom decided to confront his friend (or perhaps ex-friend) right then and there. The following is a rough outline of the argument: Groom: “What’s the matter with you? I gave you 1,500 riyals for your wedding!” Stingy guest: “Yes, and I gave you 1,500 riyals at your first wedding. But this is your second wedding, and for your second wedding you get 50 riyals.” It was about here when the two men went after each other with punches and slaps until the groom’s father took control of the situation and calmed the men down.
‘Kaust’ no longer just a university
RIYADH: On Sept. 23, Kaust was born. No, we aren’t talking about King Abdullah University for Science and Technology; we’re talking about a healthy baby girl born to Inas and Amir in Riyadh who decided to name their girl after the university, according to a report in the Thursday edition of a local newspaper. Amir told the newspaper that the only problems they’ve had so far was the task of transliterating the name “Kaust” into Arabic. But the civil affairs authorities managed to figure out how to write this unusual name for the registry.
