Saudi Arabia's General Authority of Civil Aviation (GACA) has awarded Fraport AG a six-year contract to manage, develop and operate King Khaled International Airport (KKIA) in Riyadh and King Abdulaziz International Airport (KAIA) in Jeddah. Fraport AG, the leading airport transport company renowned for its management skills, airport retailing and real-estate development, has started working on these two prestigious projects.
The company operates the Frankfurt International Airport and provides a full range of services in airport management. Frankfurt Airport is ranked as a leading European airport with regard to passenger count and cargo handling. Frankfurt Airport is also the major hub for Lufthansa and its Star Alliance partners. It served a total of 53.5 million passengers in 2008. Fraport AG grossed 2.1 billion euros in revenues, and group profits of 180 million euros during the same period.
Now as part of its deal with Saudi Arabia, Fraport AG is set to develop the airports’ entire infrastructure in Riyadh and Jeddah. Their target is to develop the passengers’ service mechanism, expand public facilities, cargo facilities, commercial activities and parking lots. This highly anticipated project is considered to be the largest management contract in the airport industry in the world.
These two Saudi airports will be re-established as both international passenger and cargo hubs, making international routes more widely available. The project aims to improve the airport’s service quality, retail and achieve sustainable traffic growth. In addition, Fraport will provide extensive training at all levels of management and will be held responsible for the airport’s daily operations.
With security and safety Fraport’s main concern, the expansion is set to surpass public’s expectation. Their vision is to provide mobility and make traveling an exciting experience for their customers. The group systematically links different modes of transportation, as they believe that airports are diverse and intermodal hubs. In fact, Fraport AG is a distinguished performer in the airport industry. Innovation, accessibility and efficiency are their trademark.
The company’s success is based on integrated services and flexibility to meet customers’ requirements. Fraport AG will undoubtedly contribute to achieving the highest levels of performance of KKIA and KAIA. This comes in line with the long-term vision of Fraport, keeping in view the fact all big airports in the future would be much more than only terminals with aircraft traffic and parking garages. They will be airport cities having a highly dynamic structure with a multitude of functions.
